EU Antitrust Regulators to Make Decision on Amazon’s Acquisition of iRobot by February 2022

European Union (EU) antitrust regulators have announced that they will reach a decision on Amazon’s $1.4 billion acquisition of robot vacuum maker iRobot by February 14 next year. This follows a temporary halt in the investigation in August while awaiting further information. The EU has expressed concerns about potential reduced competition in the robot vacuum cleaner market, as well as strengthening Amazon’s dominant position as an online marketplace provider. Amazon had previously reduced the price it would pay for iRobot by 15% due to increased debt.
