Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, will testify on Monday in the ongoing antitrust battle over Google’s dominance in search. Pichai will be questioned about Google’s investments in maintaining competitiveness in search and innovation in search advertising, particularly as smartphones became dominant. The government may inquire about Google’s annual payments to ensure that Google search remains the default on smartphones. The government argues that these agreements, worth an estimated $10 billion annually, give Google an unfair advantage in the advertising market. Google maintains that the agreements are legal and that users have the choice to switch to other search providers if they are dissatisfied with defaults.
