Arizona closely monitoring self-driving vehicle testing after California bans GM Cruise

The Arizona Department of Transportation stated that it is closely monitoring the testing and use of self-driving vehicles in the state, following California’s decision to bar General Motors’ Cruise from operating its driverless cars. The department emphasized that public safety is its highest priority and that it is in regular communication with Cruise and other companies testing autonomous vehicles in Arizona. The move comes after California’s DMV suspended Cruise’s autonomous vehicle deployment and driverless testing permit, stating that the vehicles posed a risk to the public. Other states and cities where companies like Cruise, Waymo, and Uber are testing self-driving car technology have not yet commented on the situation.
