Japan’s Panasonic Holdings has cut its operating profit forecast for its energy unit that manufactures automotive batteries by 15%. The company cites slowing demand for high-end electric vehicles in North America as the reason for the downward revision. This follows warnings from other automakers and suppliers about a potential decline in EV sales due to the economic slowdown in major markets such as China and Europe. Panasonic has lowered its full-year operating profit forecast for its battery unit to 115 billion yen ($769 million) from 135 billion yen. The company’s production in Japan has been affected by the declining uptake of high-end EVs in North America.
