Two senior officials from the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen and Vera Jourova, will attend Britain’s AI safety summit next week. The summit aims to kickstart international dialogue on AI regulation and will be hosted by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Bletchley Park. While Sunak hopes to establish Britain as a world leader in AI regulation, some have questioned the effectiveness of the summit, especially as a number of world leaders, including Germany’s Olaf Scholz and Canada’s Justin Trudeau, will not be attending. The guest list has not been made public, but U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to attend. The event will focus on discussions about the unpredictable advances of AI and the potential loss of human control over it.
