Wind River, a software company specializing in real-time operating systems (RTOS), has announced its support for Cosign, a tool that helps strengthen secure application deployment and updates. Wind River’s real-time embedded container engine, which uses open container initiative (OCI) specifications, will now include support for signed containers through Cosign. This addition will simplify the signing and verification of containers by allowing the reuse of existing development infrastructure, such as cloud-managed key management systems (KMS) and container registries. By leveraging open standards and known workflows, teams can reduce risks and easily deploy, operate, manage, and update real-time software for an RTOS, similar to Linux. This development will have a significant impact on mission-critical industries, including automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors.
