South Korea’s SK Hynix expects a boom in artificial intelligence (AI) to drive chip profits as demand for advanced chips used in AI increases. The company reported a narrower third-quarter loss compared to the previous quarter, thanks to strong demand for high-end DRAM chips used in tech devices such as high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in generative AI. SK Hynix said it is already sold out on capacity for HBM3 and HBM3E chips for next year and is discussing capacity and technical cooperation with clients until 2025. However, analysts noted that the company’s NAND flash business likely recorded significant losses in the third quarter due to weakened demand for data storage. SK Hynix shares fell 3.6%, partly due to the company’s quarterly loss missing market forecasts.
