Malaysia’s communications regulator plans to issue a warning to social media firms TikTok and Meta (formerly known as Facebook) for allegedly blocking pro-Palestinian content on their platforms. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that if the issue is ignored, he will take a firm approach. Many parties have urged the government to take action against social media platforms for allegedly restricting pro-Palestinian content. Meta denied the claim, stating that their policies are designed to ensure user safety while promoting freedom of expression. TikTok has not yet commented on the matter. The concerns come after Fahmi previously accused TikTok of not complying fully with Malaysia’s laws and not doing enough to combat defamatory or misleading content.
