US President Joe Biden is set to announce an executive order on artificial intelligence (AI) that aims to increase safety and protect consumers, workers, and minority groups from the technology’s related risks. The order requires developers of AI systems that pose risks to national security, the economy, public health, or safety to share safety tests results with the US government before public release. The order also addresses privacy, housing discrimination, and job displacement issues related to AI. The White House considers this order the “strongest set of actions” to ensure AI security. The G7 countries are also set to agree on a code of conduct for companies developing advanced AI systems. The White House is calling on Congress to pass legislation on data privacy.
